Samsung Electronics has named TM Roh as the new Head of its Device eXperience (DX) Division and appointed him as CEO, elevating one of its most influential mobile leaders to the company’s top executive tier. Roh now joins Young Hyun Jun — Vice Chairman and Head of Device Solutions (DS) Division — as co-CEO, strengthening Samsung’s dual-leadership structure across its consumer and component businesses.
With this appointment, Roh will continue to guide Samsung’s global mobile operations as the President and Head of the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business. His role remains pivotal as Samsung pushes innovation across smartphones, tablets, wearables and foldable devices. Vice Chairman Jun will similarly continue overseeing the Memory Business, ensuring consistency across Samsung’s semiconductor strategy.
Samsung also made additional high-profile leadership changes to solidify its research and technology roadmap. The company appointed Janghyun Yoon as President, Chief Technology Officer of the DX Division and Head of Samsung Research. Yoon previously served as CEO of Samsung Venture Investment and led key software, IoT and Tizen development efforts within the MX Business.
In another major appointment, Samsung named Hongkun Park as the new Head of the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT). Park is a distinguished academic, serving as the Mark Hyman Jr. Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Physics at Harvard University. His global reputation in nanoscience, quantum science and engineering is expected to significantly boost Samsung’s next-generation research initiatives.
Who Is TM Roh?
Born in 1968, Tae-Moon Roh has been one of Samsung’s most impactful engineering leaders. After earning his B.A. in Electrical Engineering from Yonsei University in 1991, he completed both his M.S. (1993) and Ph.D. (1997) in Electrical Engineering at the Pohang University of Science and Technology.
Over more than two decades at Samsung, Roh built a reputation as a meticulous engineer and a driving force behind the Galaxy smartphone lineup. He played a key role in shaping Samsung’s flagship devices as a development specialist and has long been recognized internally for his hands-on approach to innovation.
Under his leadership, Samsung successfully launched and expanded its foldable smartphone line — a category he championed early on. His strong conviction in foldable form factors helped position the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series as the industry standard for premium foldable devices.
Roh’s new role as co-CEO marks a strategic step for Samsung as it focuses on accelerating innovation, strengthening device ecosystems and expanding its leadership in emerging technology categories.
